The Sindh government has announced financial assistance for traders affected by the fire at Gul Plaza. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said that the incident was extremely tragic, adding that reports indicate around 60 people are still missing following the blaze, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.
The chief minister stated that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined and that various speculations are being circulated. He said that he was out of Karachi at the time of the incident and that it is not appropriate to respond to those spreading unrest, as the government is carrying out its responsibilities with full seriousness.
Murad Ali Shah confirmed that the Sindh government will provide financial support to traders at Gul Plaza and will compensate them for their business losses so that they can recover from the damage caused by the fire.
He further stated that preliminary findings indicate there were no proper fire-fighting arrangements inside the building, and that permission for the construction of a multi-storey structure was granted without any comprehensive study, pointing to serious negligence.
