Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has strongly condemned the Houthi attack on a commercial vessel in the Red Sea.
Ishaq Dar said that three Pakistani nationals were killed and another was injured in the Houthi attack on the commercial vessel, adding that such attacks pose a serious threat to innocent human lives and maritime security.
The foreign minister said that Pakistani authorities were in contact with the relevant Saudi authorities and the Yemeni government to obtain further details about the incident.
He said the Pakistani Embassy in Riyadh had been directed to facilitate the repatriation of the bodies and ensure all possible medical assistance for the injured Pakistani citizen.
Attack increases risks to commercial shipping in Red Sea, FO spokesperson says
Meanwhile, the Foreign Office spokesperson also condemned the Houthi attack on a commercial vessel in the Bab el Mandeb Strait, describing it as a distressing incident.
The spokesperson said the attack has increased risks to commercial shipping in the Red Sea, adding that the government of Pakistan is closely monitoring the situation.
The spokesperson said Pakistan supports freedom of navigation in international waters.
He added that Pakistan is part of the Saudi-led maritime security coalition and is ready to fulfil its responsibilities to ensure safe navigation in international waters.
