Pakistan Broadcasters Association has issued a statement regarding the supervision of electronic media by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Act. According to the PBA, the regulations on transmission were formulated in consultation with the stakeholders, specifically the transmission stick holders.
The PBA stated that these regulations were essential to safeguard the rights of employees, ensuring timely payment of their dues with certainty.
The statement emphasized the need for necessary measures to combat fake news, and they appreciated the efforts of the Minister of Information, Maryam Aurangzeb, in this regard.
It should be noted that the proposed amendments to the PEMRA laws, introduced by the federal Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Maryam Aurangzeb, were presented in the National Assembly on July 20. The journalistic fraternity has expressed concerns over these amendments.
The bill presented by Maryam Aurangzeb includes sections on ‘Disinformation’ and ‘Misinformation.’ Her intention behind the new regulations was to enhance the credibility of news content and eliminate misleading information.
The bill also defines ‘Fake News,’ and it provides representation to journalistic organizations.
