Karachi Jamaat-e-Islami’s leader, Hafiz Naaim ur Rehman, stated that the heavy burden of electricity bills has made life miserable for the citizens, and fast-spinning meters only add to the woes as there is no one to inquire about them.
Hafiz Naaim ur Rehman commented that any government coming to power in Karachi fully supports the electricity mafia.
He further mentioned that the electricity unit cost in Pakistan is 6 rupees and 75 paise, and along with that, 22 rupees per unit is added due to the inclusion of agreements in the government’s inefficiencies, besides other taxes.
In response to a question, Karachi’s Jamaat-e-Islami leader expressed that there is no law regarding the privatisation of electricity meters in reference to the French experience at Nepra. Our requests are present there, but there’s no one to listen.
He conveyed that the government is facilitating the electricity mafia, and enough is enough. There’s a limit to injustice, lest people start taking the law into their own hands.
A series of protests by citizens against the covert load shedding of electricity and exorbitant bills continue in Karachi. Protesters are voicing that they are already strained by inflation and challenging times.
Jamaat-e-Islami, in opposition to the electricity bills and load shedding, organized protest demonstrations outside various mosques after Friday prayers. Hafiz Naaim ur Rehman addressed the crowd during a demonstration at Jamaat-e-Khilafat Mosque.
