The Punjab Home Department has imposed a ban on gold mining in Attock district and tree felling and transportation in Chakwal district.
Punjab government has come up with a good initiative to protect mineral reserves and environment, Punjab government has imposed Section 144 in Attock and Chakwal for 2 months.
A ban was imposed on gold mining without permission in Attock district, Section 144 was imposed on the mining of all minerals along the Indus river in Attock district.
Transport of mining or quarrying machinery was also banned for 2 months, placer gold being one of the most important minerals for the national treasury.
On the other hand, a ban has been imposed on cutting and transportation of trees in Chakwal district, the ban will be applied on both private and public lands. There will also be a complete ban on timber transportation in Chakwal district.
The decision was taken to protect the natural environment, local population and wildlife. Cutting of trees is increasing the risk of flooding in low-lying areas, according to a notification by the Punjab Home Department, the ban will be applicable for 60 days.
