The ICC Champions Trophy will witness its first clash today at Lahore’s Qaddafi Stadium, with traditional rivals Australia and England facing off. Punjab Police have been put on high alert.
IG Punjab Usman Anwar has directed that full security be provided to players, officials, and spectators. Because of the international event’s security, strict monitoring of hostile elements is also being enforced.
IG Punjab stated that they are committed to ensuring that international matches are held in a peaceful and secure environment and that they are in contact with PCB, district administration, security agencies, and all relevant bodies.
He mentioned that over 12,000 police officers and personnel will be deployed for the Australia-England match’s security, with snipers assigned to the players’ accommodations, routes, the stadium, and nearby tall buildings.
IG Punjab further instructed the Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit, and elite teams to conduct effective patrolling along routes and key locations, while continuous monitoring via Safe Cities cameras is in place for the teams’ routes, the stadium, and other critical areas.
He added that additional traffic wardens are being deployed to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow and proper parking, with ongoing search, sweep, combing, and intelligence-based operations around the players’ routes and the stadium.
