The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has recovered a large quantity of donkey hides during an operation at Karachi Port.
According to the spokesperson, FBR’s crackdown against smuggling continues. The Enforcement Collectorate Karachi foiled an attempt to smuggle donkey hides abroad during an operation at the South Asia Pakistan Port.
A container cleared through the Green Channel was declared to contain 285 packages of leather products, which were being shipped to China. Upon detailed inspection by the staff, the container was found to hold 14,000 kilograms of prohibited donkey hides concealed under the guise of leather goods. Export of such hides is banned under Pakistan’s export policy.
The spokesperson confirmed that the seized hides weighed 14,000 kilograms and were valued at Rs. 80 million. A case has been registered against the exporter under relevant sections of the Customs Act, and further investigation is underway.
