Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that extremist groups continue to pose a threat both within Afghanistan and to the wider region, and that Pakistan is willing to extend full cooperation if the Afghan Taliban decide to take action against banned organizations such as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Addressing the “Inter-Parliamentary Conference 2025” in Islamabad, he stated that bringing parliamentary speakers together on a platform centered on peace, security, and development is a matter of pride for Pakistan, as stability remains the foundation of sustainable progress.
He noted that Pakistan also faced several terror-related incidents this year, adding that unfortunately, an attack came from the eastern front. However, the Pakistan Armed Forces responded with professionalism and demonstrated remarkable and unforgettable performance on the battlefield, completely defeating the enemy’s intentions. He said Pakistan sincerely seeks peace in the region and has consistently played a constructive role in promoting stability.
PM Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that Pakistan has always shown unwavering commitment to national stability and defense, proving to the world that the country is ready to pay any price to protect its sovereignty. He said that ongoing global conflicts have highlighted the critical importance of peace, while a stable Afghanistan is essential for the region’s long-term development.
The Prime Minister added that terrorist groups continue to create instability not only in Afghanistan but also inside Pakistan. He said that if the Afghan Taliban take decisive action against TTP and similar outfits, Pakistan is prepared to cooperate in every possible way. He further stated that Pakistan has effectively taught a lesson to those conducting terrorism from Afghan soil and will continue to take all necessary steps to safeguard its citizens.
PM Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the mediation efforts of Türkiye and Qatar, saying their initiatives are commendable and are viewed with appreciation by Pakistan. He added that peace and stability are the key drivers of progress for any society. Concluding his speech, he stated that fulfilling the hopes and expectations of the people is a shared responsibility, and the insightful discussions at the conference will help strengthen the collective path forward.
