RAWALPINDI: Security forces killed 23 armed terrorists of the Indian-backed Fitnat al-Khawarij during two separate operations in Kurram district.
According to the Pakistan Army spokesperson, both operations were carried out after intelligence reports indicated unusual movement of terrorist elements in the area, after which the forces planned coordinated and targeted operations and surrounded the area.
The first operation was carried out after identifying enemy positions where armed Khawarij showed fierce resistance to the advance of security forces; however, the forces targeted the positions of the terrorist group with professional skills, resulting in the killing of 12 terrorists in the encounter.
According to the forces, several hideouts, communication equipment, and weapons of the group were also seized during this operation.
On the same day, information was received about the presence of another group in the nearby area, following which a second operation was carried out. In this operation too, the forces surrounded the area under a systematic cordon and killed 11 more terrorists during a fierce exchange of fire.
According to military officials, the aim of both operations was not only to eliminate immediate threats but also to disrupt the part of the network that was planning operations in the country by receiving support and instructions from across the border.
The ISPR has clarified in a statement that security forces are continuing operations with full force under the “determination of stability” against any group that tries to promote terrorism in Pakistan through external support.
The statement said that in the face of the joint determination of the people and the state, no foreign support or terrorist network can sustain itself for long, and the forces will continue such operations with the same intensity and unity in the future as well, so that the atmosphere of peace and order in the country can be strengthened permanently.
