The government has increased the levy on petrol and diesel, resulting in the public being deprived of potential relief. Under the decision, the levy on petrol has been raised by Rs 4.65 per litre, increasing it from Rs 79.62 to Rs 84.27 per litre.
Similarly, the levy on diesel has been increased by 80 paisas per litre, raising it from Rs 75.41 to Rs 76.21 per litre. Officials stated that had the levy remained unchanged, petrol prices could have been reduced by around Rs 4.5 per litre.
It is worth noting that the federal government has decided to keep petrol and diesel prices unchanged until January 31. According to the issued notification, the price of petrol will remain at Rs 253.17 per litre, while diesel will continue to be priced at Rs 257.08 per litre.
