Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has arrived in Pakistan on a one-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and acknowledging Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in the region.
His aircraft landed at Noor Khan Air Base in Islamabad, where he was received by Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar.
According to Iranian officials, the aircraft carrying President Pezeshkian was named “Minab” in memory of children who lost their lives in an attack on a school in Iran.
Iranian authorities stated that the purpose of the visit is to appreciate Pakistan’s diplomatic and mediation efforts regarding regional issues and recent negotiations involving Iran.
During his stay, President Pezeshkian is expected to hold meetings with Pakistan’s top leadership to discuss bilateral relations, regional developments and areas of mutual cooperation.
Sources said the Iranian president will also thank Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for Pakistan’s role in supporting diplomatic initiatives and efforts aimed at promoting regional stability.
The visit comes at a time when both countries are seeking to deepen political, economic and diplomatic cooperation.
