Islamabad: The Army Act of 1952 will be presented in the National Assembly today for approval. The Senate has already given its approval to this bill.
According to the details, the session of the National Assembly will be held today at 5:00 PM, and the National Assembly Secretariat has issued a 26-point agenda for the session.
In the agenda, it was mentioned that the amendment bill in the Army Act 1952 will be presented for approval, the Senate has already approved this bill.
In today’s meeting, the Bill of Amendments to Cantonments Bill 1954 will also be presented.
It should be noted that on July 27, the Senate had approved the Army Act Amendment Bill, which was presented in the Parliament by Defense Minister Khawaja Asif and Law Minister Azam Tarar.
As per the approved bill, a person who unlawfully discloses information in the official capacity will face up to 5 years of rigorous imprisonment, except if the disclosure is authorized by the Army Chief or a competent officer.
The bill also stated that those revealing information against the interests of Pakistan and the armed forces will be dealt with under the Official Secrets Act.
As per the law, a retired, resigned, or dismissed person cannot participate in political activities for two years, and those who violate this restriction will face a strict punishment of 2 years.
Under the bill, a person assigned to sensitive duty will not be allowed to participate in political activities for 5 years, whereas those involved in electronic crimes with the purpose of maligning the Pakistan Army will be prosecuted. Such individuals will face a 2-year imprisonment and fine under the Army Act.
