Riyadh: Saudi Arabia has reopened its embassy in the Syrian capital Damascus after 12 years.
According to a foreign news agency, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Syrian government officials, diplomats, and scholars participated in the opening ceremony of the Saudi embassy in Damascus.
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the opening of the Saudi embassy is an important day in the history of relations between Syria and Saudi Arabia.
Earlier in May of this year, Saudi Arabia decided to appoint an ambassador to Syria after 12 years and appointed Faisal Al-Mujfail as its new ambassador to Syria.
In 2012, Saudi Arabia closed its embassy in Syria and recalled its ambassador after the civil war in Syria.
Syria reopened its embassy in the Saudi capital Riyadh in December last year.
