New Zealand’s ODI captain Tom Latham has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against Pakistan after suffering a fracture in his right hand. Michael Bracewell has been appointed as the stand-in captain in his absence.
Latham sustained the injury during a training session on Saturday while batting, when a ball struck his hand. An X-ray later confirmed the fracture. The cricketer is expected to be out of action for at least four weeks.
In Latham’s place, Henry Nicholls has been added to the New Zealand squad.
Wicketkeeping duties will now be handled by Mitchell, who delivered an impressive performance during the T20I series.
New Zealand head coach Gary Stead stated that Henry Nicholls has returned to the squad after recovering from an injury that kept him out for three months, and he is currently in good form.
Opener Will Young will miss the second and third matches of the series as he is expecting the birth of a child. In his place, 23-year-old Rhys Mariu will be added to the squad.
The three-match ODI series between Pakistan and New Zealand is set to begin on March 29.
