An important oil and gas development project in Jhal Magsi district of Balochistan has officially become operational, marking a significant milestone in the region’s energy sector.
According to the spokesperson of OGDCL, the Jhal Magsi Development Project has been successfully completed on fast-track instructions from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The company formally announced the project’s completion and inauguration in a letter to the Stock Exchange.
The project is producing 14 million cubic feet of gas per day along with 45 barrels of oil per day. The extracted gas has already been integrated into SSGCL’s main pipeline network to ensure immediate supply to consumers.
Launched in February 2024 after the government’s incentive package approval, the project involves OGDCL as the operator with a 56% share, while POL holds 24% and GHPL has a 20% stake.
The spokesperson highlighted that alongside energy production, OGDCL has also carried out several community development initiatives in Jhal Magsi under its CSR program. These include the construction of schools, healthcare centers, and 84 model houses for low-income and homeless families. Scholarships and technical training through NAVTTC were also provided for local youth.
Additionally, OGDCL has supported healthcare by providing ambulances, free eye camps, and ration bags for 800 families. To ensure clean water supply, two RO plants and several water tanks have also been installed in the district.
