Pakistan’s Meteorological Department has forecast the onset of widespread monsoon rains across the country during the first week of July.
According to the Met Office, a new western weather system is expected to enter Pakistan by this evening or tonight, while moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea are already affecting the country’s eastern and central regions.
The department said moisture levels will increase further from July 2, bringing thunderstorms and rainfall to most parts of the country between July 1 and July 6.
The forecast also indicates that Sukkur, Jacobabad and Larkana are likely to receive light rain accompanied by thunderstorms on July 3 and 4.
No Significant Rain Expected in Karachi Yet
For Karachi, the Meteorological Department said there is no significant rainfall expected until July 13. However, the city is likely to experience partly cloudy and humid weather over the next three days, with a chance of light drizzle in some areas.
Strong sea breezes with speeds of 30 to 40 km/h are also expected during the same period, which may provide some relief from the heat.
