Sialkot: Flight operations at Sialkot International Airport have been temporarily suspended from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. today in view of possible flooding in the River Chenab.
According to the airport spokesperson, a formal NOTAM has been issued to suspend operations. Initial reports suggest that floodwaters from the southern side are approaching the airport, prompting the authorities to take precautionary measures.
As per the NOTAM, all flight operations will remain suspended daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. until the complete drainage of floodwater is ensured.
The spokesperson added that the entire workforce and machinery of SIAL are currently active to manage the situation. De-watering pumps and other resources are being used to ensure the timely removal of water.
The airport management confirmed that the terminal building, parking area, and runway remain safe, while floodwater has only entered from the southern side after crossing the protective embankment. Efforts are underway to drain the water with the help of pumps and machinery.
Meanwhile, due to the temporary suspension of operations at Sialkot Airport, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has revised its flight schedule, shifting all flights to Lahore Airport between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m.
