DG ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif has stated that, whether in times of war or peace, the Pakistan Army stands firmly with the people and will never allow hostile forces to succeed in their malicious intentions. He emphasized that the Prime Minister and provincial governments are fully active during this emergency, and the Army is extending complete support.
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad alongside Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar and NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, he said that Punjab has been facing severe flooding since last night, and on the special directives of the Prime Minister, relief operations are continuing with full intensity.
He added that flood units are operational in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Kashmir. So far, 29 medical camps have been set up in the flood-affected regions, while an engineering brigade and 30 units are engaged in relief operations. More than 20,000 people have received medical assistance, and over 28,000 individuals have been shifted to safer locations. Additionally, 225 tons of rations have been distributed among flood victims.
Lieutenant General Sharif said that in many areas bridges and roads have been restored, while rescue and relief work continues in other regions. During these operations, two Army soldiers embraced martyrdom and two others were injured.
He further informed that rescue efforts through boats are ongoing in Kartarpur, while the Army continues to stand with the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa facing hardships. Air relief operations are also being conducted in Gilgit-Baltistan. Meanwhile, the Karakoram Highway has been reopened, and rehabilitation work on roads in Ghizer is in progress.
