DHAKA: A massive fire at the international airport in Dhaka, Bangladesh, has caused an estimated loss of more than one billion dollars, raising serious concerns for the country’s export industry.
The blaze broke out last week in the cargo logistics section of Dhaka Airport, injuring around 35 people and destroying a significant amount of goods.
It took firefighters 27 hours to bring the flames under control. The fire destroyed garments, raw materials, and other valuable items, while flights and airport operations were temporarily suspended.
Officials have warned that the incident could put export agreements at serious risk, as most of the damaged goods were prepared for shipment abroad.
An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the fire and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
