More than 11,000 Pakistani nationals have taken advantage of loopholes in the United Kingdom’s visa system to apply for asylum, according to newly released data. The figures, highlighted in a report by a British publication, show that out of 40,000 asylum applications submitted in 2024, a significant number were filed by Pakistanis.
The report stated that this number is five times higher compared to 2022, placing Pakistan at the top among 175 countries with more than 11,000 asylum applications. It was further noted that all individuals applying for asylum entered the UK legally on a visit, work, or student visa before submitting their claims.
UK Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp criticized the situation, calling the exploitation of the border visa system a complete failure of the government. He emphasized the need for firm and decisive measures to stop such misuse and restore integrity to the immigration process.
