The government has decided to form a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to investigate “armed extremist attacks” on police and courts. A government official stated that the decision to form the JIT was taken in light of the decisions made at a meeting of the parties included in the government yesterday.
The official said that a high-powered JIT had been prepared, which would be sent to the Prime Minister’s office today. They also stated that the JIT would include officers from the Ministry of Interior, senior police officers, and officers from sensitive institutions.
The JIT will conduct an investigation into violence against the police at the Judicial Complex in Islamabad and will submit its report within 7 days. During the investigation, all evidence related to petrol bomb attacks, training of banned organizations, and facts related to militancy will be collected, including evidence of breaking the gate of the Judicial Complex, stone-pelting, burning of motorcycles and cars.
According to the official, the JIT will cover all aspects of property destruction, arson, interference in government affairs, and violence in its investigation.
