Nehal Hashmi has taken oath as the Governor of Sindh. The oath was administered by Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court Zafar Ahmed Rajput.
The oath taking ceremony was attended by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Sindh Interior Minister Zia ul Hassan Lanjar, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, President of PML N Sindh Bashir Memon, along with other political leaders and workers.
It is worth noting that the decision to appoint Nehal Hashmi as Governor Sindh was made a day earlier, while President Asif Ali Zardari had approved his appointment.
Brief Overview of Nehal Hashmi’s Political Career
Nehal Hashmi, who belongs to Karachi, has been associated with Pakistan Muslim League N for several decades. From 1997 to 1999, he served as Advisor to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Law and Justice.
Later, in 2012, he served as President of PML N in Karachi, and in August 2014 he was appointed as General Secretary of the PML N chapter in Sindh.
In 2015, Nehal Hashmi was elected to the Senate on a seat allocated to Punjab by PML N, and he has now been appointed as the Governor of Sindh.
In 2017, he was expelled from the party after making a controversial statement related to the Panama case, but his party membership was restored in 2021.
