As intense heat waves grip Karachi and other parts of the country, today marks the longest day and shortest night of the year, adding to the already sweltering conditions.
According to details, June 21, 2024, is set to be the longest day of the year, and it is also counted among the hottest days. In Karachi, daylight will last for 13 hours and 41 minutes, while the night will be 10 hours and 19 minutes long. After July 1, the duration of daylight will gradually begin to decrease, and by September 22, day and night durations will be approximately equal.
Astronomer Javed Iqbal noted that in Karachi, sunrise was at 5:43 AM, and sunset will be at 7:24 PM. Today is the year’s longest day and shortest night, commonly referred to as the Tropic of Cancer.
Meanwhile, following July 1, the duration of the day will start to decrease gradually, reaching equilibrium with the night by September 22.
Additionally, over the next 24 hours, thunderstorms and rain are expected in northeastern Balochistan, Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
