Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have started celebrating the ceasefire agreement and the prisoner exchange deal. The official announcement of this agreement is expected within the coming hours.
According to various American, Arab, Palestinian, and Israeli sources, the formal declaration of the agreement is anticipated within a few hours. This deal will bring an end to the war that has continued in the Gaza Strip for nearly 15 months.
On Wednesday evening, Al Arabiya and Al Hadath cameras captured large-scale celebrations in the streets of Khan Younis, a city in the southern Gaza Strip. Ahead of the signing announcement of the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, a wave of excitement swept through, and gunshots were fired. The announcement of the deal is expected soon.
Social media users shared that a Palestinian girl in the Gaza Strip celebrated news of the ceasefire between Hamas and the Israeli army, stating, “A ceasefire was a dream.”
A source also informed Al Arabiya that Israel will release 250 Palestinian prisoners serving life sentences under this agreement. The deal is expected to come into effect within the next few hours.
Officials from Qatar and Hamas announced on Wednesday that an agreement had been reached with Israel on a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of dozens of prisoners. This deal will stop the devastating war in the Gaza Strip that has lasted for 15 months.
After weeks of intensive negotiations in Qatar’s capital, Doha, the agreement includes the release of dozens of hostages held by Hamas, as well as hundreds of Palestinians detained in Israeli prisons. The deal will also allow displaced people in Gaza to return to their homes and will permit the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip—assistance that is desperately needed.
Earlier, a Palestinian official source told Al Arabiya and Al Hadath channels that the announcement of the Gaza ceasefire agreement would take place in the Egyptian capital, Cairo. Sources said Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and the Popular Front met in Doha and agreed on the agreement draft.
They added that, during the first phase of the agreement, the factions led by Hamas examined maps showing the withdrawal and locations of the Israeli army’s presence in the Gaza Strip. The factions confirmed that the Israeli maps align with what was agreed upon by the technical committees of all parties involved.
