In a significant development to improve internet speed, Pakistan’s cable will be connected to a new 45,000-kilometer-long modern internet cable passing through Africa today.
According to IT experts, this cable has the capacity to transfer data at a rate of 180 terabits per second, which will significantly improve the overall internet speed, including social media apps.
This move comes at a time when there has been continuous criticism regarding the country’s internet speed. A few days ago, the Minister of State for Information Technology, Shiza Fatima, also acknowledged that internet speed in Pakistan does not meet international standards.
During a National Assembly session, the PPP, a government coalition party, also criticized the internet speed.
Member of Parliament Shazia Marri raised objections to the government’s Digital Nation Bill, stating that claims of digital development are laughable with such poor internet speed.
With the connection of the new cable, it is expected that digital development in Pakistan will be promoted, and internet users will experience faster and more stable connectivity.
