Former Australian cricketer and renowned commentator Michael Slater has been found guilty in a domestic violence case.
The 55-year-old Slater was sentenced to four years in prison by the court. However, after serving over a year behind bars and with the sentence partially suspended, he has now been released.
Between December 2023 and April 2024, Slater faced multiple charges, including assault, choking, unlawful entry, and stalking a woman in Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. During the trial, Judge Glenn Cash remarked that Slater has a history of alcohol abuse and that rehabilitation would not be easy for him.
It is worth noting that Slater represented Australia in 74 Test matches between 1993 and 2001, scoring over 5,000 runs with 14 centuries and 21 half-centuries. He also played county cricket for Derbyshire in England and later became a well-known cricket commentator.
