Islamabad: The first Mpox (monkeypox) case of the year has been reported, involving a patient who returned to Peshawar from Dubai.
Public Health authorities confirmed Mpox in the individual arriving from Dubai, identifying the suspected case during screening at Peshawar Airport.
Advisor on Health, Ehtesham Ali, stated that the province has recorded 10 Mpox cases—2 in 2023, 7 in 2024, and this first case in 2025.
Upon receiving the case report, a Public Health team arrived at Peshawar Airport and transferred the patient to the Police Services Hospital. According to the advisor, samples taken at the Police Hospital were sent to the Public Health Reference Lab, where Mpox was confirmed in the 35-year-old patient.
