The international journal The Diplomat has praised Pakistan’s effective and successful diplomatic efforts in Washington, stating that the country has skillfully turned shifting global circumstances into a major diplomatic opportunity.
According to the report, India is currently facing a fifty percent United States tariff and has been deprived of a high-level presidential visit. After India rejected the claim of the United States mediation in the Pakistan–India dispute, bilateral relations entered a state of stagnation.
The Diplomat noted that Pakistan used this diplomatic crisis to its advantage by openly welcoming President Donald Trump’s mediatory role, which contributed to an improvement in relations between Pakistan and the United States.
The report stated that following the Pakistan–India conflict, President Trump invited the Pakistani Army Chief to the White House. Later, in September 2025, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir also visited the White House.
According to the journal, discussions between President Trump and Field Marshal Asim Munir extended beyond security matters to include trade and investment. During this period, counterterrorism cooperation between Pakistan and the United States was revived, breathing new life into a long-standing pillar of bilateral relations.
The Diplomat further reported that in July 2025, Pakistan and the United States concluded a trade agreement involving tariff reductions. President Trump also announced that both countries would jointly develop major oil reserves. In December 2025, Pakistan secured United States approval for the upgrade of its F-16 aircraft.
The report added that in January 2026, Pakistan emphasized the renewal of diplomatic engagement with China, while the United States designated the Baloch Liberation Army and the Majeed Brigade as terrorist organizations. Additionally, due to the absence of a trade agreement with India, the United States imposed a fifty percent tariff on Indian goods.
