In a surprising turn of events, no players from runner-up South Africa have been included in the Team of the Tournament announced after the T20 World Cup 2024.
The tournament, co-hosted by the USA and West Indies, concluded with India’s victory. Following the end of the mega event, the International Cricket Council (ICC) revealed the Team of the Tournament. Shockingly, it did not feature any players from South Africa, despite them reaching the final.
The ICC’s final eleven includes six players from the champion team India, three from Afghanistan, who impressively reached the semi-finals after defeating major teams, and one player each from host West Indies and Australia, who both competed in the Super Eight stage.
The International Cricket Council has bestowed the leadership of the Team of the Tournament upon Rohit Sharma, the captain of the victorious Indian team.
India’s Surya Kumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Akshar Patel, Jasprit Bumra, and Arsdeep Singh have been included in the team.
T20 World Cup top scorer and Afghanistan opener Rehmanullah Garbaz, Fazl Haq Farooqui, and Afghan captain Rashid Khan are also part of this team.
West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran and Australia’s Marcus Stoinis, who Helped Their Teams Reach the Super Eight Stage, are Also Included in the Team of the Tournament XI, While South African Bowler Anrich Nortje has Been Named the 12th Player.
No player from England, who played in the semi-finals, has been included in this ICC Team of the Tournament, while no one from Pakistan, New Zealand or Sri Lanka has made it.
