Iranian Supreme Leader Khamenei has announced an amnesty for thousands of prisoners, including those guilty of crimes against the state.
According to a report by the state news agency IRNA, Ali Khamenei agreed to pardon and reduce the sentences of 2,887 prisoners following the proposal of the head of the judiciary, Ghulam Hossein Mohseni.
Arna said that the death sentences of 59 people were commuted to imprisonment. 39 and 40 foreigners convicted of crimes against the state are also among those pardoned.
It should be noted that Khamenei, who gives the final decision on all state affairs, on some occasions announces amnesty for prisoners.
