Grand Peace Jirga in Kohat Brings Agreement Near Finalization for Peace in Kurram District
A major step towards establishing peace in Kurram District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was taken with the near-finalization of an agreement between the conflicting parties during the Grand Peace Jirga held in Kohat.
According to sources, the Grand Peace Jirga was held on Friday at Kohat Fort, with government officials in attendance. The agreement between the parties has been nearly finalized, and it is expected to be signed by both parties.
Sources also stated that the final decision is likely to be made by 11 a.m. today after the signatures of both parties.
As per the proposed agreement, both parties have agreed to hand over heavy weapons to the government.
In the meantime, on the previous day, a helicopter was used to deliver medicines and other essential supplies to the affected people in the Makpal area of Kurram district.
According to district administration, the helicopter also evacuated 40 people, including patients, who were stranded.
It is important to note that various routes, including the Parachinar-Peshawar central highway and several routes in Upper Kurram, have been closed for over two and a half months.
Over 100 villages in Parachinar and Upper Kurram are facing severe shortages of food, medicines, fuel, and other essential items. Protests have been ongoing for nine days at the Kurram Press Club against the closure of these routes.
