Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has appointed Mahmood Khan Achakzai as the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafri as the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate.
PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan confirmed both nominations, stating that the decision was made under the directions of PTI founder Imran Khan.
Speaking to the media at Parliament House, Barrister Gohar said that he received instructions from Imran Khan earlier in the day, after which a joint parliamentary party meeting finalized the appointments of Achakzai and Jafri for their respective houses.
He added that the official nomination forms for both opposition leaders will be submitted to the National Assembly and Senate Secretariats on Tuesday.
Denying reports of internal rifts within the party, Barrister Gohar said that PTI strictly follows the directions of its founder in all major decisions.
He further explained that some of the party’s cases were pending in courts with interim orders in place, which is why Imran Khan had advised patience earlier. However, after no relief was granted, the party decided to move forward with the appointments.
