The Deputy Commissioner South has submitted a written response to the judicial commission investigating the Gul Plaza incident in Karachi, outlining the actions taken and coordination among institutions during the emergency.
According to the response, the district administration received information about the fire at Gul Plaza at approximately 10:27 pm through the emergency control room and wireless coordination system, after which relevant departments were immediately mobilized.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that his role, along with the Assistant Commissioner Garden Division, was to activate the administrative machinery promptly. He added that he personally reached the site at 10:31 pm and remained present to ensure coordination among various departments.
The response further stated that upon arrival at the site, immediate contact was made with rescue agencies and a District Emergency Operation Center was established to maintain effective communication among all relevant institutions and facilitate support for the affected individuals.
The Deputy Commissioner’s office also highlighted close coordination with the fire brigade, KMC, and Rescue 1122, while clarifying that police and traffic police operate under separate administrative structures and are responsible for maintaining law and order, managing traffic flow, and securing the rescue area during emergencies.
The response maintained that the district administration played a significant role in ensuring coordination among institutions and in providing necessary administrative and logistical support.
