Lahore: The Punjab Chief Minister has launched the Wheat Incentive Program, under which farmers are being provided with free tractors.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif initiated the digital balloting process by pressing a button for the “Grow Wheat” reward scheme. Under this program, 1,000 free tractors will be given to wheat farmers. The first winner was a female farmer from Bahawalnagar, Kausar Parveen.
Maryam Nawaz personally congratulated the successful farmers by phone. She also called Muhammad Iqbal from Jhang to congratulate him on winning a free tractor, to which the farmer expressed his gratitude.
Speaking to Salman Ahmed, a prosperous farmer from Mandi Bahauddin, the Chief Minister said, “You’ve won a free tractor in the balloting, and I thought I should call and congratulate you myself. InshaAllah, the wheat harvest will be good. My prayers are with all the farmers.”
During the briefing, it was revealed that 57,733 landowner farmers with more than 12.5 acres of land applied for the free tractor scheme. After verification, 21,496 farmers were declared eligible for the ballot.
A total of 1,000 successful farmers will receive 55-horsepower tractors for free.
It was also shared in the briefing that wheat has been cultivated on 560,000 acres of land in Punjab this year, and the delivery of tractors to all selected farmers will begin within three months.
