The flooding has severely damaged numerous crops that are dispersed over a wide area. In Lahore, the destructive wrath of the overflowing Ravi River has engulfed agricultural land in addition to residential areas due to floodwaters.
There are concerns that the destruction of crops over a wide area will result in higher prices for fruits and vegetables. No vegetable in the Singhpura vegetable market costs less than 250–300 rupees per kilogram.
Iftikhar Ali, Punjab’s secretary of agriculture, stated that even though crops have been seriously ruined, the full scope of the losses will be determined after the water subsides.
