Islamabad: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority has approved an increase in electricity prices across the country, raising the per unit tariff by Rs1.79 from January 1.
The decision has been forwarded to the federal government, and its implementation will take place after formal approval. Currently, the average base electricity tariff stands at Rs31.59 per unit, which is expected to rise further following this decision.
Meanwhile, NEPRA has also announced a partial relief for consumers by reducing electricity prices by 93 paisas per unit. According to the notification, the reduction has been made under the November fuel price adjustment.
The notification states that consumers across the country, including Karachi, will receive this relief in their January electricity bills, while lifeline consumers will not be eligible for the reduction.
