Pakistan’s Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority has issued a notification increasing the distribution-level sale price of Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas by around 15% for June.
The increase has been attributed mainly to costly emergency LNG purchases from the spot market amid disruptions in global supplies caused by tensions between the United States and Iran.
According to the notification, the RLNG price in June is around 15% higher than in May, 56% above the March level and 73% higher compared with February.
The increase in RLNG prices has also significantly raised fuel costs for electricity generation.
The fuel cost of electricity generated from RLNG stood at Rs31 per unit in May, compared with Rs13.72 per unit in April.
Sui Southern Gas Company, which supplies gas to consumers in Sindh and Balochistan, has recorded an increase in distribution losses to 12.55%, compared with around 10.6% a few months earlier.
Meanwhile, distribution losses at Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited, which supplies gas to Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, have increased to around 9%, up from 7.47% in October last year.
