Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Israel enjoys strong support in India, claiming that people in the country of around 1.4 billion stand with Israel.
In an interview with Fox News, Netanyahu responded to remarks by US Vice President JD Vance, who had said that President Donald Trump was currently Israel’s only powerful ally.
Netanyahu said that while Donald Trump is the best friend Israel has ever had in the White House, he is not Israel’s only friend.
The Israeli prime minister said India has a population of 1.4 billion and Israel receives tremendous support there.
He also referred to the strong support visible on his Facebook page, apparently from Indian users, presenting it as an example of significant public backing for Israel in India.
Netanyahu said Israel has many other friends as well, although he did not name additional countries.
He added that despite growing anti-Israel sentiment in different parts of the world, several global leaders remain interested in cooperation with Israel in defence, technology and other sectors.
JD Vance had criticised Israel’s reaction to a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran last month, saying Donald Trump was the only powerful world leader currently sympathetic to Israel.
