Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has claimed that missile and drone attacks were carried out against US military bases and facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait in response to American strikes.
According to Iranian state broadcaster IRIB, the IRGC said its navy and aerospace force conducted a joint missile and drone operation during what it described as an initial retaliatory action.
The IRGC claimed that 85 key US military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait were targeted during the operation.
The statement also claimed that an American MQ-9 drone was shot down during the attacks.
Iran’s claim comes as the US military launched a new wave of airstrikes against Iran on Tuesday.
The United States has also revoked a licence that allowed Iran to sell oil.
Regional tensions have further escalated following unidentified attacks on three oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, placing additional pressure on an already fragile ceasefire.
