Islamabad: A report released by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) on World Population Day states that 76 percent of young people in Pakistan are optimistic about their future, while emphasizing that the country’s future depends on the opportunities, decisions, and potential of its youth.
According to the report, Pakistan’s population has reached approximately 257.2 million, with one-third of the population falling between the ages of 10 and 24, highlighting the significant role of the country’s young population.
The report states that although 76 percent of young people are optimistic about the future, 53 percent remain concerned due to security challenges, economic difficulties, and inequality. It also notes that young people living in rural areas without internet access continue to face various obstacles.
The United Nations Population Fund urged authorities to equip young people with digital skills and provide better employment opportunities. It further stated that population policy is not merely about increasing or reducing population numbers, but also about ensuring people’s rights and freedom of choice.
