Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has appeared in public, raising questions over recent claims regarding his alleged house arrest and links to Israel.
A video shared by a Turkish news agency on X showed Ahmadinejad attending a memorial ceremony in Tehran for the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
The appearance came a day after The New York Times published a report claiming Ahmadinejad had allegedly been in contact with Israeli intelligence and was part of an alleged regime change plan in Iran.
The report also claimed that Ahmadinejad’s current whereabouts were unclear and suggested he may have been placed in the custody of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps over his alleged links.
According to the newspaper, he was last seen publicly on July 6, surrounded by security personnel at a public ceremony.
Meanwhile, Ahmadinejad has strongly denied the allegations regarding ties to Mossad and reports of his detention.
According to the Turkish news agency, a statement issued by Ahmadinejad’s office described the New York Times report as fabricated and aimed at misleading public opinion and creating internal divisions in Iran.
The statement also rejected claims that the former president was under house arrest, calling them baseless and intended to support other unverified allegations.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad served as Iran’s president from 2005 to 2013 and also attended Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei’s funeral prayers last week.
