The Sindh government has decided to open the mixed traffic lane on University Road to reduce traffic congestion and provide immediate relief to commuters in Karachi.
The decision was announced during a meeting on the Red Line BRT project chaired by Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon, where officials reviewed the project’s progress and ongoing construction work.
The meeting was attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Trans Karachi CEO Zubair Channa, project consultants and senior officials from relevant departments.
Officials informed the meeting that construction work on the Red Line BRT project is progressing rapidly and that all concerned agencies are coordinating closely to accelerate work on different sections.
Addressing the meeting, Sharjeel Inam Memon said the Red Line BRT is a key public transport project for Karachi and that its timely completion remains one of the Sindh government’s top priorities.
He directed all relevant departments to ensure the project is completed within the scheduled timeframe so that citizens can benefit from modern transport facilities as soon as possible.
The senior minister said the Sindh government is committed to providing safe, modern and environmentally friendly public transport services.
He added that once completed, the Red Line BRT project will strengthen Karachi’s public transport network, significantly reduce traffic congestion and provide reliable and comfortable travel for millions of residents.
