Thousands of Spanish fans took to the streets waving national flags as fireworks, music and celebrations continued through the night across cities and towns nationwide.
On Monday morning, Spain’s national team arrived in Madrid from the United States, with captain Rodri stepping off the plane carrying the World Cup trophy. Thousands of supporters gathered at the airport to welcome the champions.
Meanwhile, tensions escalated in Buenos Aires after Argentina’s defeat. According to foreign media reports, thousands of fans gathered in the city, but celebrations later turned into clashes in several areas.
Reports said some protesters threw stones and bottles at police, prompting officers to respond with rubber bullets, tear gas and water cannons.
Local media reported that several people, including seven police officers, were injured during the clashes, while at least 15 individuals were arrested. Authorities also closed several major roads in the capital to restore order.
Argentine President Javier Milei announced that a national holiday would be declared to honor the team’s runner-up finish, with the date to be chosen in consultation with the players and coaching staff.
Argentina also declared a national holiday after winning the FIFA World Cup in 2022.
