The death toll from this year’s monsoon rains in Punjab has risen to 21, while 154 people have been injured, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
In its latest damage assessment report, the PDMA said 21 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents across the province during the current monsoon season.
According to the authority’s spokesperson, 15 people died in building collapse incidents, three were electrocuted, two were killed by lightning strikes, and one person drowned.
The report also stated that 38 houses were partially damaged due to heavy rainfall.
The PDMA said financial assistance ranging from Rs1 million to Rs5 million is being provided to the families of those who lost their lives.
The authority has urged the public to take precautionary measures during the monsoon season, avoid staying in unsafe buildings, and refrain from unnecessary travel during severe weather conditions.
