General Syed Amir Raza has officially assumed command of the National Strategic Command and was presented with a guard of honour on taking charge of his new appointment.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), General Amir Raza laid a floral wreath at the Martyrs’ Memorial and offered prayers for the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the service of the country.
Following the change of command, General Amir Raza met Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at the General Headquarters (GHQ), the ISPR said.
The military’s media wing stated that Field Marshal Asim Munir congratulated General Amir Raza on assuming his new responsibilities and conveyed his best wishes.
Two days earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had approved the promotion of then Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Syed Amir Raza to the rank of four-star general and appointed him Commander of the National Strategic Command.
The Prime Minister’s Office formally announced the promotion and appointment through an official statement.
Commissioned into the Pakistan Army in 1988, General Syed Amir Raza is a graduate of the Command and Staff College Quetta and the National Defence University Islamabad. He also holds a degree in International Relations from the University of Nottingham.
He was appointed Chief of General Staff at GHQ in January 2025 and has previously served as Commander of IV Corps and Chairman of Heavy Industries Taxila.
