Karachi: The Sindh cabinet has approved a two-year extension in tax and registration incentives for non-commercial electric vehicles, keeping the concessions in place until May 29, 2028.
The decision was taken during a Sindh cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah at the Chief Minister House, where a package of registration and tax concessions for electric vehicles was approved.
Speaking at the meeting, the chief minister said the adoption of electric vehicles was important for promoting environmentally friendly and sustainable transportation.
Murad Ali Shah said greater use of electric vehicles would help reduce dependence on imported fuel, while continuing tax incentives would encourage EV adoption across the province.
According to the Sindh government spokesperson, the registration fee for electric vehicles will remain Rs1,000, while the annual motor vehicle tax for non-commercial EVs will remain Rs500.
Electric motorcycles will be subject to a one-time lifetime motor vehicle tax of Rs500.
Electric vehicles equivalent to an engine capacity of 2,000cc or above will be subject to a luxury tax of Rs5,000.
A penalty of Rs1,000 has also been fixed for late registration of an electric vehicle.
The incentives will remain applicable from May 30, 2026, until May 29, 2028.
The Sindh cabinet also approved the proposal regarding electric vehicles submitted by the Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department.
