Karachi: Pakistan has set a new record by exporting nearly $570 million worth of seafood products to international markets during fiscal year 2026.
According to the Marine Fisheries Department, the arrival of Pakistani seafood products in European Union stores reflects renewed international confidence in the country’s fisheries sector.
The department said Pakistan could increase seafood exports to as much as $3 billion by shifting its focus from exporting raw materials to value-added products.
It said Pakistan’s seafood varieties have significant potential in international markets and greater emphasis should now be placed on processing and value addition.
The European Union imposed a complete ban on seafood imports from Pakistan in 2007.
In 2013, four Pakistani companies were granted partial access to the European market. After years of efforts, the Marine Fisheries Department says confidence among European brands in Pakistani seafood products has now been restored.
The department described the record exports as an important development for Pakistan’s fisheries industry, saying value-added products could help the country significantly expand its share in global markets.
