Moscow: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has expressed the possibility that Iran could eventually become part of the Makkah joint defence pact.
Lavrov said the inclusion of Egypt and Algeria in the Makkah agreement would also be a positive development and a significant practical step towards implementing a concept previously proposed by Russia.
The Russian foreign minister said he expected Iran could ultimately become part of the joint defence alliance as well.
According to Lavrov, the participation of more regional countries in the pact would represent a positive step towards expanding defence cooperation across the region.
The Makkah joint defence agreement was reached last month between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.
Under the pact, an attack on any one of the three member countries would be considered an attack on all of them.
