Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned Houthi attacks in Saudi Arabia and reiterated Pakistan’s continued support for the Kingdom’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.
Yemen’s Houthi Ansar Allah group carried out attacks on the Saudi cities of Abha, Khamis Mushait, Najran and Jazan, targeting civilian and economic facilities. According to Saudi authorities, 73 people, including women and children, were injured.
Condemning the attacks, Prime Minister Shehbaz said such actions not only endanger innocent lives but also threaten regional peace and security.
He reiterated Pakistan’s continued support for Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity and expressed solidarity with Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the Saudi people.
The prime minister also prayed for the speedy recovery of all those injured in the attacks.
Separately, Pakistan’s Foreign Office described the Houthi attacks as a clear violation of Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, saying they posed a threat to peace and stability across the region.
The Foreign Office said Saudi Arabia had the right to take all necessary measures to protect its national assets against any threat.
Pakistan said it had consistently worked for lasting peace and stability in the region and would continue those efforts, while also extending its best wishes for the full recovery of those injured.
The Foreign Office said Pakistan fully supported Saudi Arabia’s legitimate right, in accordance with the UN Charter and international law, to defend its territory and protect its citizens and residents.
It added that the Houthi attacks undermined efforts to achieve a peaceful and lasting resolution to the conflict in Yemen.
Pakistan also reiterated its full solidarity with the Saudi leadership, government and people.
