Islamabad: Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has announced that the creation of new provinces will be debated during National Assembly and Senate sessions in October.
Speaking to the media, Chaudhry said parliament was the appropriate forum for discussing the issue of new provinces.
He said sessions of both the National Assembly and Senate would be held in October, where the proposal to create new provinces would be taken up for debate.
The federal minister also said Islamabad was moving towards adopting a new governance model.
His remarks come after Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari called for the issue of new provinces to be debated in the National Assembly rather than at business forums.
Speaking to the media in London, Bilawal had said the PPP’s position on the issue was clear and that if the existing system had failed, a formal debate should be held in the National Assembly.
He added that democracy remained the solution to Pakistan’s problems.
